There’s only one winner in that game – whoever has the lowest price! BUT getting orders & making no money is not only pointless (because you’re working for no gain), it’s also demoralising & feeding your negative thoughts about you & your business. If you have low prices in order to compete with your competition. Price is a big indicator of quality! So a higher price can also mean more sales. By the way ‘free shipping’ also increased my orders via Amazon, Ebay & my own website so it’s not just an Etsy thing. ![]() My orders actually INCREASED ten-fold! Because as discussed, People want to see just one price, it makes it easier for them to make a decision. I had the same thoughts, the same limiting beliefs BUT when I increased all my prices on Etsy & offered free UK shipping. I went through this whole ordeal within my own mindset within the start of my business. In fact, as we discussed your buyer prefers to only see one price & not 2! Your customer is already going to be paying the total cost so by moving it from 2 prices into 1 it’s not going to stop people buying your product. I want to therefore quickly provide some further helpful facts at this point so that you can flick that little monster off your shoulder. Now, no doubt right now you’ve having a mini meltdown or panic attack, because the little monster in your head is telling you that you can’t increase your prices because no-one will buy your products. Included the shipping costs within your item price. Show the total price upfront to make that buyer’s decisions easier. So don’t give your customer any reason not to buy from you & instead buy from someone else who is offering ‘free shipping’. Research has shown that the number 1 reason for someone not ordering something they’ve added to their basket/cart is because there were extra costs & they were too high (e.g. This is thanks to the likes of Amazon & all the other big boys companies who offer ‘free shipping’ & because your customer is used to ordering from these places regularly then when they are presented with having to buy extra for shipping then it’s actually a ‘turn off’ for them. In the world we live in right now, in 2020, people are used to not having to pay shipping. Whereas if you offer an additional price on top for shipping, that customer has spent the last few minutes processing within their buying decisions the price shown on the screen & now when they’ve gone to pay it’s increased & they’ve got to mentally make a new decision about your product & whether it’s now worth the new total price shown. If you offer ’free shipping’ aka ‘shipping included’ then your customer knows when they see the price of your product and that is the price that they will pay when they checkout. Reason 1: Your Get More Orders by Only Having One Total Price OK let’s know the reasons why you should offer ‘free shipping’ aka ‘shipping included’. So remember, you are not offering ‘free shipping’ instead you are offering ‘shipping included’. ![]() ![]() Really, everyone should advertise it as ‘shipping included’ which is what is the reality of the situation BUT ‘free shipping’ is now the term that has been most commonly used to mean this so that’s what you should call it & it’s what I’ll continue to call it through this episode. Therefore it’s important to realise that ‘free shipping’ is not about offering shipping at no extra cost to your customer & you somehow cover the costs from somewhere else & potentially make a loss! NO, Free shipping is a marketing tactic. ![]() Everyone knows this! Shipping has to be paid for somehow & by someone in order for a product to successfully get from point A (your address) to point B (your customer’s address). Now before I get into this episode, I want to start off with an important mindset shift that you need to make. & why your money mindset might be stopping you getting consistent orders. Why you NEED to offer ‘free shipping’ (& not because it’s prioritised in US search results). And the answer to this is to add it to your product price & then offer free shipping!ģ reasons why Etsy ‘free shipping’ will get you more orders. BUT, you’re worried that this will ‘put off’ your customers if your shipping prices are high. Therefore you want to make sure that you charge the right price to cover any shipping or postage prices you have. If you’re selling physical products it can be one of your biggest expenses – it certainly is for my own product-based business, Popcorning Piggy. I get asked a lot about shipping or postage prices.
